Welcome to Rathdrum's Web site. Here we hope to give you an insight into
the workings of Rathdrum Fire Brigade and introduce you to the crew
members.
First of all Rathdrum is a retained unit. This means that we are on call by
means of an alerter system. So if there is a call, it goes through a central
control room in Tara Street in Dublin called the Eastern Regional Control
Centre. They take the call and then set off our alerters. We then make our
way to the Fire Station where on arrival at the Station we will have a
printout giving us the details of the type of incident we have to deal with.
This printout gives us details like
·
Type of incident (Fire, Accident ect,)
·
Number of units going to the incident
We would then proceed to the incident and deal with it as appropriate.
Rathdrum covers a wide area from Turlough hill in the North to Avoca in the
South. Taking in Glendalough, Laragh, Annamoe, Glenealy, Glenmalure. A lot
of our area is Forest and wild land. So we get a lot of calls to wildfires and
Forest fires. We border with Fire units in Wicklow, Arklow, Tinahely and
Dunlavin.
